Description

Lane County and Trillium Community Health Plan present the Lane County Pain Guidance & Safety Alliance 2018 evening dinner series. Join us as Pharmacist Consultant, Fiona Karbowicz, RPh presents on the laws and regulations associated with Naloxone. Following Ms. Karbowicz will be Geoff L'Heureux, PharmD, AAHIVP, presenting on how to apply this knowledge to practice, including provider/patient conversations on treatment for addiction and pain using Naloxone.

Ms. Karbowicz has over 15 years of experience as a retail pharmacist in chain and independent pharmacies. She began work with the Oregon Board of Pharmacy in March 2011 as an Inspector and has worked as the Board’s Pharmacist Consultant since early 2014. Dr. L'Heureux is a credentialed HIV specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine; he specializes in working with people living with HIV and Hepatitis C in rural areas.

Objectives for this talk:

- Understand how prescribers and pharmacists prescribe the various formulations of naloxone consistent with Oregon Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Understand the Good Samaritan Law.
- Learn how to educate the patient on proper administration of naloxone.
- Understand the importance of utilizing the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.
- Understand new rules for pharmacy collection of unused medications and safe drug disposal.

Dinner will begin at 6 PM with the presentations to follow at 630PM.

Cost: $30 for General Attendance/Trillium Contracted Providers are discounted at registration. Attendees will receive Continuing Education credits: 1.5 CME/ 1.5 NASW/ 1.5 Pharmacy CE

About the Lane County Pain Guidance & Safety Alliance Initiative (LC-PGSA):

The LC-PGSA is a community collaborative designed to address chronic pain and treatment methods including therapies and appropriate medications. The initiative explores and discusses issues concerning opiate overdoes, safe storage and disposal of opiate medications, alternative treatments, and patient and provider education regarding chronic pain and the use of opiates.
