Planners and environmental experts have highlighted the many benefits of “nature-based” solutions that will both reduce GHG emissions and make our water infrastructure more resilient to the impacts of climate change. In this webinar we will hear from three experts about nature-based solutions such as community gardens, backyard gardens, and water harvesting systems, and how they can help us do our part at both a community scale and a neighborhood scale.

About our speakers

Brook Sarson, Co-owner and CEO, CatchingH2O

Brook Sarson co-owns and operates CatchingH2O, a contracting company specializing in Rainwater and Greywater Harvesting as well as Ecologically rich and drought tolerant landscaping. She has a background in engineering and Permaculture Design. Her goal is to enhance community resilience by empowering individuals to create decentralized water solutions throughout the county. Joseph Rivera, Interim Conservation Manager, San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy

Joseph joined the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy originally as Associate Conservation Manager. Rivera supports planning, coordinating, and implementing the SDRVC Citizen Science and Next to Nature (N2N) Programs as well as recruiting, training, and supervising SDRVC volunteers/docents. Rivera has an AA in Earth Science and Natural Science from Los Angeles Valley College and a BS from UC San Diego in Environmental Systems: Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution. Paul L. Watson, Jr., MSHS, President/CEO, Global Action Research Center

Watson is the former Executive Director of the Training and Research Institute for Residential Youth Centers in New Haven, CT and Watson and Associates International. He has a master’s degree from Springfield College. He began a consultant organization in 1998 and specialized in Community Development, Youth Development, Child Welfare, and Organizational Development. He successfully completed international projects in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan), The Netherlands, Brazil, Jamaica, and Egypt. Paul has also served as faculty at Springfield College, New School of Architecture and Design, San Diego City College, and UC San Diego.
