Event description

Description

The landscapes of play have changed radically over the last century or so. This symposium will delve into past and current thinking on the design of children’s play, as well as look to the future. All speakers have extensive and detailed knowledge, providing specialist and thoughtful insight into play. There will also be plenty of time for discussion during question times after each presentation and a wider debate with all speakers at the end of the day.

Speakers include (subject to final confirmation):

Carley Sefton, Chief Executive, Learning through Landscapes: Learning through Landscapes: the first three decades

Dr Luca Csepely-Knorr & Dr Amber Roberts, Manchester Metropolitan University: Michael Brown and his work with children

Maisie Rowe: Adventure Playgrounds: Lady Allen of Hurtwood

Helen Woolley, University of Sheffield: Playing the streets: past, present and future

Andrée Davies, DW Landscape Architect: Play for challenged children

Chair – Adam White, President, The Landscape Institute

The event is open to all but will be of particular interest to landscape architects, children’s play specialists, historians, and anyone interested in planning and design of communities and spaces for children and young people.

Please book early as places are limited. The FOLAR symposiums have proved to be popular and well attended events.
