Event description
The Land and Water Module provides students the ability to explore different interactions between land and water.

About this Event

In the Land and Water Module, students investigate the interactions between land and water, such as how runoff causes stream formation; how groundwater forms; how soil is eroded, transported, and deposited; and how water shapes land. Land and Water invites students to manipulate their model, create hills, build dams, and grow vegetation to observe how these things affect land and water interactions. They learn how water shapes the land and, in turn, the land directs the flow of water. This module has many embedded learning experiences for students that analyze cause and effect. They are ready to grasp the effects of flowing water over and through land and the effects of various land features on the flow of water. By the end of this interactive module, students have both a practical and an intuitive understanding of some of the complex interactions between land and water.

During this course, participants will:

  • Engage in three-dimensional learning for developing disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, and cross cutting concepts
  • Participate as an adult learner to experience investigations and science and engineering content
  • Share teaching strategies to support literacy and inquiry-based learning
  • Identify the learning goals in the module and how the investigations support the Big Ideas
  • Examine assessment opportunities
  • Develop notebook as a resource
