The bus will only be able to get us as close as the Greenbelt Metro Station in MD due to DC street closures/security and numerous other transportation problems. The tour company will not be charging us anything additional for the time increase. I am a member of the American Bus Association and they have been actively working on our behalf with WMATA to encourage them to allow buses to enter closer metro stations, so if anything develops there I will let you know but this is the plan as of now.
Here is the metro information for the line we are taking into DC:
Metro In: 5717 Greenbelt Metro Drive Greenbelt, MD 20740 take to L’ENFANT PLAZA METRO STATION 600 Maryland Avenue SW Washington, DC 20024 $7.20 round trip anticipated price. 30 minute ride.
I would like to pair together those of you who have not already purchased a $10 metro card so that you can stay together to ride the metro and get safely into D.C.
The Pennsylvania group is meeting at 8:30 at the Botanic Gardens at 1st St & Maryland SW if you would like to meet up with them.
The march starts at 9 am from the intersection of Independence Avenue and 3rd Street SW which is just 2 blocks from the L'Enfant metro station.
Weather: Cloudy-High 55
Clothing: Comfortable Shoes (waterproof them with spray if it looks like rain will be in forecast), Wear good socks and bring extra if it's going to rain, as well as a poncho/jacket if rain. Wear layers, light scarf.
What to bring: Water, medications, portable phone charger to power up your phone, cash, snacks that fit in a bag that can be no larger than 8”x6”x4” as required by Washington D.C. Police. No backpacks allowed at march or anything construed as a weapon (NO SIGNS ON STICKS!) Backpacks/bags can stay secure on bus.
Snacks: Each marcher is permitted one additional 12”x12”x6” plastic or gallon bag for snacks/meal.
Safety: Small index card on your person with important names/phone numbers-you may choose to write this with permanent marker on your arm in case of arrest/injury, A bandana (moisten with water to cover your face from pepper spray, tear gas). Buddy up-do not walk this march alone! Find a buddy/group on the bus down and stay together. Stay towards the edges of the march for easy escape should the march become violent. Do not engage counter protestors for your own safety. More tips here: http://nymag.com/thecut/2017/01/what-to-bring-to-the-womens-march-plus-how-to-prepare.html
This is intended to be a peaceful march but I have been reading/hearing accounts of Trump supporters training to be there to march against us. Please be mindful of safety and stay in groups. Leave the scene if it gets dangerous. I will not be bailing anyone out of jail. It is important you call/text me if any problems arise. Keep your cell phone available in case I sent out an alert. Plan to meet back at the bus if you get separated.
I hope this a safe event!
