Event description

Description

Friday, May 8th

5:45–7:30pm

Cristina Perotti Smith was born in Piacenza, Italy, to a family of artists and musicians. She studied piano at the Conservatory G. Nicolini, graduating in Piano with the highest honors, and Diploma in History of Music, Harmony, and Harpsichord. Her advanced training was in Siena at the Accademia Chigiana and the Rome Arts Academy. Her mentors have included Gyorgy Sandor and Jorg Demus. Her performance debut was at age seven, and she was a frequent solo performer in Europe during her Conservatory years. At thirteen, she was awarded the prestigious Zanella Prize by the Italian Ministry of Public Instruction.

Since her Carnegie Hall debut, she toured the United States, Europe, South America, and Australia with a repertoire including works written expressly for her. Two-piano and four-hand piano with the Perotti-Dutt Duo later became the cornerstone of her recording career. Her extensive and meticulously researched repertoire for four-hand piano, as well as her inclination towards contemporary music and collaboration with living composers, led to four recordings on the Electric Records label.

In addition to performing, she has judged piano competitions, instructed master classes and recorded educational videos. In 1992 she had the honor of becoming a Steinway Artist, and as the owner of a Beckstein and three Steinway pianos, she looks forward to performing on the Hill-Stead’s custom 1901 Steinway.

This event includes a wine and cheese reception from 5:45 to 6:30, and a 45-minute performance in the drawing room.

Presented with generous support from The Richard P. Garmany Fund at The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
