A film by Dawn Porter
U.S. abortion clinics are fighting to survive. Since 2010, hundreds of laws regulating abortion clinics have been passed by conservative state legislatures, particularly in the South. These restrictions, known as TRAP laws (or Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers), masquerade as regulations designed to protect women’s health, but in fact have a singular purpose: to ban abortion by saddling clinics with onerous regulations that are exceedingly difficult and costly to satisfy. As the battle heads to the U.S. Supreme Court in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, TRAPPED follows the plaintiff and legal team leading the case as well as the struggles of the clinic workers and lawyers fighting to keep abortion safe and legal for millions of American women, many of whom are poor and uninsured
