Event description

Description

She left a tin-top shack in Arkansas to move to New York with the hope of making it big as a singer. Though she had some success on the Chitlin Circuit, it was as a songwriter that she would achieve fame and fortune, writing hits for Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Ruth Brown, Big Maybelle, Big Joe Turner, Ike & Tina Turner, Little Willie John, and so many other top recording artists of the 1950s and ‘60s.
This musical performance features the life and music of songwriter Rose Marie McCoy, as played by singer Audrey Martells, with pianist Etiene Stadjwijk, bassist Belden Bullock, drummer Sipho-Kunene, and dancers Cole and Nile Bullock.
