Event description

Description

This workshop is part of the *My Raggedy Herbs Culinary Kids Series.

Hear a story about the amazing insects that help gardens grow basketfuls of delicious veggies. Hold out your hands and see how long you can keep the tiny, red ladybugs on you before they fly away. Learn the importance of beneficial bugs while releasing ladybugs into the My Raggedy Herb Kitchen garden. Create a ladybug snack using fresh fruits/vegetables and then romp and tromp in a group led nature hike to look for other bugs that are good, bad and ugly! Take home your own container of ladybugs to release in your yard or garden.

*My Raggedy Herbs Culinary Kids Series: According to the Farm Bureau (2016) the average person is 3 to 5 generations removed from a family farm. So, what does this actually mean? It means that most kids don’t know where their food comes from, how many eggs a chicken lays a day or what really takes place on a farm. Lori Coats, owner of My Raggedy Herbs, is out to change that as she allows kids to visit her herb farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma to learn about food sources and vegetable gardening up close and personal. Once a month, during the summer, kids can come learn age-appropriate gardening and cooking skills, make nature crafts, enjoy story time, pet farm animals and play outside. During these outdoor classroom experiences kids will discover where their food comes from, the importance of taking care of plants and animals that are future food sources and how to begin cooking for themselves. Children are asked to wear their play clothes.
