TONYA'S STORY:
"On July 9th, I went to the ER in Coldwater for what I thought was appendicitis. Upon further examination, it was determined that I had more than that. I was rushed to Mt. Carmel St. Anne’s hospital in Columbus where they further discovered during surgery of the appendectomy that I had Stage 3 Colon Cancer. During the surgery, they notified my family which was a shock to all of us since I just went in for side pain. I was in the hospital recovering for 5 days and I had to spend the next 6 weeks resting to get my body to heal. The diagnosis for reoccurrence of the cancer was at 40% due to my age and the number of lymph nodes that were found full of cancer during the surgery. The doctors recommended chemotherapy to kill any micro cells that could still be in my body. It would also reduce the reoccurrence down to 20% or as I like to look at it, living my life 80% chance cancer free.
In September, I started chemotherapy treatment. This entails chemotherapy once every 2 weeks for the next six months. I have chemo for the 3 days straight which entails being at the Celina Cancer Center for 4 hours then being sent home with a pump for another 2 days. I am counting down the treatments and am expected to be done in March 2019.
I reside in Coldwater with my husband, Tony whom I have been married to for 27 years. We have 2 adult children, Ashley and Josh, and a daughter-in-law, Alyssa. My entire family has been extremely helpful and supportive during this time. I also have to give credit to my friends, co-workers, and community members that have blessed me with their support through encouragement and prayers. I currently work at Cooper Farms Processing in St. Henry as the Human Resources Manager and have been fortunate to work for the company for 25 years. Throughout my life, I have always been one to have a positive nature. Staying upbeat and positive has helped me more than anything during this process. “Believe, Hope, and Pray” I got this!" -Tonya Huber
