Event description

Description

Calling ALL Spades players!!! Ages 18 & up, from the surrounding areas of North Mississippi & Alabama!

Everyone thinks they can play Spades, but are you good enough to win the Aces High Spades Tournament?

The Aces High Spades Tournament presented by King of Spades Productions and is currently offering you a golden opportunity to take the $500 cash prize crown of Spades King/Queen! Join us Labor Day Weekend. Saturday, August 31th, 5:00 pm, at R&B Grand Event Center for an exciting night of friends, music, food, and our favorite card game, Spades!

Two individuals register as a team. There will be a 30 minute time limit per bracket match. If neither team has won the match in the time limit, the team ahead at the “stop” time will be declared the winner. If a hand is in progress at the “stop” time, it will be played out and the results added to the score to determine a winner. If there is a “tie” at the end of the 30 minutes of play, one hand overtime will be played. The team with the highest score after that hand will be declared the winner.

A game will be 500 points. 1st place bracket and 2nd place bracket. You and your partner each will win the Grand Prize of $500 for the first prize and $200 for the second prize team. This is a low cost $25 entry event and CASH prizes will be awarded to the winners based on the final number of entrants.

R&B Grand Event Center rules of the House are as follows:
1. Absolutely NO CHEATING! CHEATING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION! This rule is firm and there will be NO EXCEPTIONS! Our King of Spades Game Night Guarantee stands on integrity and will not compromise the customer's premium gaming experience.

2. NAME-CALLING, THREATENING, TALKING ACROSS THE BOARD or ANY TYPE OF DISRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED! As a real, get-down Spades player, I understand the culture of smack-talking at the table. We don't have a problem with that. Our main concern is that it doesn't get disrespectful or out of hand. Please do not say anything that you would not want repeated to you.

3. Please follow the rules of the tournament. We understand players have different rules and variations they are accustomed to, but everyone being on one accord will make for a fun and hassle-free tournament!

4. As in any other competition, the tournament official has the final call. Please respect the game and offiials that are there to help make the tournament run smoothly. If the entire table isn't satisfied or can't agree with a decision, the tournament manager can be requested. Under certain circumstances, the tournament manager is the ONLY person that can overturn a call.

5. Cigars and cigarettes are not allowed at the game tables while playing.

6. If there happens to be ANY problem at the table, please notify a tournament official or the tournament manager as soon as possible.

The rules of the game are as follows:
1. Absolutely NO CHEATING! CHEATING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION! This rule is firm and there will be NO EXCEPTIONS!

2. The name of the tournament is Aces High, which means...ACES ARE HIGH. The Ace of Spades is the highest regular card in the deck. The JOKERS are not being played. No dueces.

3. Games will go to 500 points and there will be a 30-minute time limit. If a hand is in progress at "stop" time, it will be played out and the results added to the score to determine a winner. Should there be a tie score at the end of 30 minutes, a one-hand overtime will be played.

4. The tournament is best 2 out 3 "double-elimination", which means a team has to lose two 500-point games to be eliminated.

5. As in any other competition, the tournament official has the final call.

6. NO SWITCHING PARTNERS. If one of the team members is unable to play the team forfeits.

7. THE DEALER IS CHOSEN BY WHO PULLS THE HIGHEST CARD FROM DECK. During the dealing or cutting process. The Dealer will deal all 13 cards to each player, in clockwise order, starting with the first player to the left. No "cross dealing" or "trick-deal" is allowed. A "cross dealing" or "trick-deal" is considered a misdeal and will result in a 100-point penalty and forfeiture of the deal.

8. No cards can be "turned over" during a deal. Any cards being turned over, even if it's a mistake, will result in a misdeal!

A misdeal can be called for the following:

1) Player was not dealt exactly 13 cards.
2) Player does not have any spades.
3) Player does not have any face cards (Ace, King, Queen, Jack).
4) "Cross dealing" or "Trick-deal" or cards being dealt out of order. 5) A card being "turned over" during a deal.

9. Each team is allowed one misdeal during each game without penalty. Subsequent misdeals will result in a 100-point penalty for each misdeal.

10. Scorecards are official. Once a bid is written on the card, it can NOT be changed. It doesn't matter if a player wants to increase or decrease a bid. The tournament official will double-check the cards after each hand is played. NO THROWING YOUR HAND IN.

11. Talking across the table or giving hints to a partner is not allowed and will result in a 100-point penalty. The second infraction will result in automatic DISQUALIFICATION.

12. Players must follow the suit of the led card, if they have a card of that suit. If a player does not have a card of that suit, they can choose to throw a spade or another suit.

13. A player can not lead with a spade until a spade has been played.

14. A spade beats all other suits.

15. Players must bid in order, starting with the player directly to the left of the dealer.

16. Dealer must offer the player to his/her right, the opportunity to cut the cards after they are shuffled.

17. The minimum total bid for a team is 4 or "board". There will be NO "Nines".

18. Reneging will result in a forfeiture of 3 tricks to the opposing team. Players are not allowed to look through previously played tricks to validate a reneging claim. ONLY the refs can look through previous played tricks for validation. If a player looks through previous played tricks, a 100-point penalty will be assessed.

19. A card laid is a card played and can not be picked up!
