Event description

Description

Paoli Student Ministry is Partnering with La Vida this summer to bring you the best Sr. High Summer Trip yet!

This summer is going to be game changing! We get the oppertunity to go to New York and attend this amazing experience with La Vida, a outdoor adventure ministry based through Gordon College. Our very own Emily Norcini has worked for them for a number of summers and speaks fantastic things about it.

Check out some more information below!

La Vida - Adirondack Excursion

In an age of extreme sports there is a growing tendency to have a "been there, done that" attitude. But does extreme learning accompany the experience? La Vida provides participants with more than just extreme experiences. Our mission is to provide a supportive experiential environment that encourages participants to explore the meaning of their relationship with Jesus Christ and foster a deeper personal commitment to Him. We do this by providing youth and their leaders with challenging, small-group, wilderness adventures, facilitated by trained and qualified staff, all through which God's Word can be heard, experienced, and integrated into daily life. For almost 50 years, God has used the power of the wilderness and the La Vida experience to help young people unplug from technology long enough to be transformed by the love and grace of Christ as they learn to "hold fast" to Him.

Team Building

Training begins with group initiatives/team-building games and ropes course. Skills & Activities include: minimum-impact (Leave No Trace) camping skills, rock climbing, rappelling and backpacking or canoeing. Participants are trained with the skills that will allow them to become more self-sufficient later in the trip.

Group Travel

Using skills acquired during the training period, your patrol will execute a short expedition apart from your La Vida instructors. This is typically referred to as finals, and it lasts 1–2 days. The La Vida Sherpas remain in close proximity of your group, but provide enough space to "test" participants on their knowledge of the various wilderness skills taught earlier in the expedition.

Solos

The solo is a one or two day period free from distractions, worry, and responsibilities—a chance for you to think, pray, fast, read your Bible, write in your journal, and plan future goals without life's usual interruptions. Participants are regularly checked on throughout the course of the solo by the Sherpas.

Celebration

One or two challenges and surprises fill out the final days of your Adirondack Expedition. Time will be given to contemplate and celebrate the events of this powerful experience and how it applies to your life. Groups take advantage of La Vida's 75-acre property located just miles from Lake Placid.

Who is it for?

Adirondack Expeditions are for anyone interested in developing their faith and leadership potential. Our participants are eager to engage in a new experience, up for challenges that the wilderness setting provides, and ready to encourage and support their group members.

Why does it matter?

Being comfortable is becoming the norm, and we want to change that. We believe that deep growth happens when we choose to push past the comforts of everyday life. La Vida creates opportunities—through a ropes course, rock climbing and scaling hiking 4,000-foot peaks—to develop perseverance and character that will prepare participants to face obstacles long after their days in the wilderness.

Research has proven that La Vida helps participants form meaningful friendships, develop resilience and acquire leadership traits that contribute to success in their future.

Details

The biggest question is always cost and this is the one piece of it that we were a little nervous about going in. The trip will cost $700. Before you freak out, just like I did when I saw that number, remember that we have a bunch of very generous people here at Paoli that would like it to be possible for every kid to get the oppertunity to go to camp. All you need to do is download and fill out THIS FORM to request a scholarship for part or all of this event. I would need that form well in advance of the trip.

VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT!

You must register by June 1st. We only have room for 7-8 people to attend in our group since they keep them small, though If we have overwhelming interest early enough then we can register for another trip. THERE WILL BE NO LATE SIGN UPS THIS YEAR unless someone drops their spot.
