About this Event

THE FRENCH CINE-CLUB invites you to join us on Friday February 21 at 7:00 pm, at Emerson School 2800 W. Bayshore, Palo Alto.

LA RÈGLE DU JEU (1939, remastered 1959)) by Jean Renoir with Marcel Dalio, Nora Gregor and Jean Renoir as Octave.

This masterpiece of world cinema is a comic tragedy in the spirit of French comic theater, a criticism of a rich society dancing on a volcano. A weekend at a Marquis’ fashionable country chateau unveils truths about a group of haut bourgeois at a crucial time in history. Relations among classes, similar to the “Marriage of Figaro” by Beaumarchais (1789) reveal chaos precisely constructed like the music of Mozart.

The bilingual introduction and the discussion will be led by Hélène Laroche Davis, Professor of Film Studies.

Buffet (traditional French charcuterie and cheeses provided by Fabrique Délices and Frenchery, Wine, Networking and French Songs with Karima Bouaziz for starters!
