Event description

Description

We are delighted to invite you to participate in the 2017 LA Riff. LA Riff is a one-day, invitation-only conference, based on The Veritas Forum’s Veritas National Riff Scholars project that equips Christian thought leaders to engage a general audience. Co-hosted by InterVarsity Graduate and Faculty Ministries and The Veritas Forum, LA Riff seeks to build a community of local scholars dedicated to growing as Christian public intellectuals. The focus of the conference will be on helping participants to grow in their ability to write and deliver a compelling and memorable talk.

The output of the conference will be for each scholar to develop a 12-15 minute TED-styled talk that integrates their faith and their field of study. Veritas’s VP of Content, Rebecca McLaughlin, will lead sessions on Building audience connection, Making your talk stick, and Winsome and Effective Q&A. Rebecca holds a Ph.D. in English literature from Cambridge University and has 7 years of experience coaching professors on their content development and delivery. Sessions will draw on peer-reviewed literature in communication, and participants will have opportunities to test their ideas and implement multiple aspects of the training with a small group of peers.

We are very excited by the prospect of your participation. If you are available, we will send you a detailed schedule of the conference nearer the time. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact any one of us on the LA Riff organizing committee.
