About this Event

Free event and open to students and the public. This lecture with Chantal James includes discussion and a hands-on activity reacting to the La Rampa magazine, her project on decolonization. Chantal James of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is a Canadian of Guyanese and Welsh descent.

A graduate of the Parsons School of Design, James is co-founder and editor of the three previous issues and current editor-in-chief of La Rampa magazine.

This event will take place at the Flagg Building, 500 17th Street NW, Room 222 on the 2nd floor, Washington, DC 20006.

This event is part of the "Inter | Sectionality: Diaspora Art from the Creole City" exhibition, a bold, multidisciplinary exhibition featuring predominantly Miami-based artists from across the Caribbean, with work ranging from photography to site-specific installations with luminescent sand and a towering sculpture. You can see the free show until Nov. 14, 2019 – March 20, 2020. It is open Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Weekends 1 – 6 p.m. at 500 17th Street NW (Atrium Galleries).

The exhibit, featuring 25 Miami-affiliated artists and two guest artists, challenges social justice, celebrates identities, and bridges communities through contemporary art and scholarship.
