Event description

Description

On Saturday, October 27, we continue our look at Claude Debussy’s impressionist masterpiece La Mer as we welcome Swedish film composer and record producer Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther, Creed, Community, Happy Endings, New Girl).

During our score study segment, we utilize our unique volunteer-created individual instrument mock-ups, allowing us an unprecedented look into the insides of Debussy’s score, and we’ll step through it looking both at his writing and his orchestration, and learn how he brought such vivid colors into his music.

Ludwig will join us and share his musical life with us, from his beginnings in Sweden, to his work with Donald Glover (Childish Gambino), HAIM, Chance the Rapper, and then specifically focus on his collaboration with fellow USC graduate Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, a film that became an instant blockbuster hit and a seminal moment in Hollywood’s ongoing fight for diversity. The goal of his score was to blend a traditional superhero score with African instrumentation, and his preparation even involved traveling to Senegal to research African music and instruments.
