LA Made: Long Beach Opera--A Musical Journey
Event Information
Description
Long Beach Opera presents soprano Jamie Chamberlin and tenor Nathan Granner in a musical journey through works of Left Coast composers. Featuring arias and duets by California composers who are reshaping the world of opera with their stories and music. L.A. composers will be significantly featured in this presentation.
Jamie Chamberlin is recognized for her versatility as both a singer and actress. Recently, ArtslnLA hailed her role debut as Cunegonde in Long Beach Opera's "Candide" as "jaw dropping."
Tenor Nathan Granner is a renowned solo and collaborative artist. He premiered the role of Dr. Morel in the Long Beach Opera/Chicago Opera Theater commission and co-production "The Invention of Morel" by Stewart Copeland, the drummer of the band The Police, and now a classical composer.
Long Beach Opera--the oldest operatic producing company in Southern California--has as its essential purpose the advancement of the frontiers of opera, in repertoire and in production style. LBO's artistic vision is to present unconventional works--repertoire which is neglected by other, more mainstream opera companies --ranging from the very beginnings of opera to modern, avant-garde works, emphasizing their theatrical and musical relevance to our time. By performing in a variety of local theaters and alternative spaces, LBO highlights opera's power to move hearts and minds in the most unexpected ways.
