Event description

Description

This year will be the 12th edition of Universidad Popular(UP)'s Feria del Mole in South Lawndale. For the last eleven years this event has been the highest mark in UP's celebration of the Hispanic Heritage Month in the southwest side of Chicago. Please, save this date in your calendar and join us for an exquisite experience tasting mole, one of the most traditional dishes in all the Americas.

So that you know, UP's Feria del Mole is actually is an off shoot of our Women Empowerment Program's participants’ habit of sharing their favorite dishes with one another during their weekly gatherings on Saturdays. Somehow many of them ended up bringing their home-cooked moles for those meetings and coyly bragging about their culinary skills. Unavoidably, there was always a question about which one of those moles was the most tasteful one. At that junction, the group convener proposed a fair or mole festival.

By the second year we did it in Little Village, plenty of phone calls started arriving from all over the country; essentially callers wanted to do something similar and soon after Los Angeles, New York and various other cities followed suit as well with their own mole fairs, not to speak of other neighborhoods in Chicago. Anyhow, invite you in tasting one of the most authentic Mexican culinary creations on Saturday, September the 30th, anywhere from noon to 6pm, at Universidad Popular in La Villita.
