About this event
KyCAD’s Open City Arts Program is an artistic hub designed to connect individuals in the community seeking creative opportunities from industry professionals and faculty. Our classes offer an opportunity to tap into your creative abilities at varying ages and level. You don’t have to identify as an artist, you just need to love art and design.
June 15 – July 27, 2021 / Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 pm / 7 classes
Introduction
Create your own rules and your own world! Just like building a fort with pillows, blankets, and cardboard boxes, we’ll explore the development of concepts, storyboard creation, style guide, and on camera interpretation using accessible tools and creative problem solving.
Instructors
Amber Thieneman, School Outreach Manager, Speed Art Museum, co-creator of I SEE I THINK I MAKE
A multimedia artist whose practice includes collage, photography, editing, music, storytelling, and art education. Amber has degree in Music Technology and enthusiastically explores connections between the performing and visual arts. She has led workshops and taught a variety of classes to ages ranging from 5 – 65. Amber is the School Outreach Manager at the Speed Art Museum and co-creator of I SEE I THINK I MAKE - a free video series encouraging everyone to enjoy art and create their own. She has served as an Advisory Board Member, Instructor, and Photographer for Girls Rock Louisville, and has volunteered as a photographer for Louisville Story Program.
Darrick Wood, Gallery Education Manager, Speed Art Museum, co-creator of I SEE I THINK I MAKE
Darrick Wood is a former K-12 teacher and Hadley Creatives artist. He is a cheerleader for risk-takers, weekend artists, and anyone curious enough to learn something new. Co-creator and host of I SEE I THINK I MAKE -- a free video series encouraging everyone to enjoy art and create their own. Creator of the weekly radio show "Inside A Question" - producing unique audio stories that encourage listeners to get curious and explore the world in new ways. As Gallery Teaching Manager at the Speed Art Museum, he creates virtual and in-person educational experiences for all ages.
Course description:
There are so many parts to creating video art. In this course, you will move through forming an idea to building a world using the space and materials available to you. Make a 60-second pitch and discover how lighting, editing, and sound design can bring your idea to life in surprising ways. Use creative problem solving and discussion to build a solid foundation for your project. You will complete a short video of your own design by the end of the course. Technical tools will be used to support your vision but will NOT be the primary focus of this course.
Course aims:
• Complete a short video project.
• Create the necessary space for artistic ideas to grow and take shape.
• Build a community of support and feedback.
• Build technical skills: script writing, storytelling, video editing, sound recording,
lighting, YT uploading.
Who should attend:
This course is open to any individuals interested in using film as an expression for storytelling. The level is from beginner to intermediate.
You will need:
Mobile phone with video function
Video editing software (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere)
Encouraged, but not required:
• Microphone
• Card reader
• Ring light or adjustable lighting
• Camera with filming capabilities (SLR recommended)
• Various lenses
