Event description

Description

Exhibition of Brooklyn-based artist Ky Anderson and Nashville-based artist Vadis Turner.

"Ky Anderson's paintings are personal narratives of layered forms, colored washes and line work that illustrates the visible and invisible connections between the weights, pulls and supports of the landscape around us. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Sherry Leedy (MO), Kathryn Markel (NY), Frosch & Portmann (NY), Look & Listen (FR) and Dolphin Gallery (MO), along with numerous group shows and art fairs in the US and Europe. She is represented by Zeitgeist (TN), Kathryn Markel Fine Art (NY), and Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art (MO). Born 1973 in Kansas City, MO and lives in New York."

"Vadis Turner has synthesized the practice of painting with repurposed domestic textiles. Her unconventional paintings engage gender roles and handicrafts in a contemporary context.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Turner received a BFA and MFA from Boston University and has exhibited her work internationally. Selected exhibitions include the Brooklyn Museum, New York; National Gallery, Prague and Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, PA. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, 21C Museum, Tennessee State Museum, Kentucky Arts and Crafts Museum and the Egon Schiele Art Centrum.

In 2016 Turner was awarded the Joan Mitchell Painters and Sculptors Grant. She recently had her first solo museum exhibition at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts through September 10th, 2017. She will have a two-person museum show at the Carnegie Center for Art & History in 2018.

She is represented by Geary Contemporary in NYC and Zeitgeist Gallery in Nashville"
