Event description

Description

Join us as we celebrate KWIC's 30th anniversary with a special keynote from visiting international speaker Bayo Akomolafe.

About Bayo:

Bayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.) is an author, speaker and renegade academic who is globally recognized for his poetic, unconventional and counter-intuitive take on global crisis, civic action and social change. He is currently the Chief Curator of The Emergence Network and author of ‘These Wilds Beyond Our Fences: Letters To My Daughter on Humanity’s Search For Home’ and ‘We Will Tell Our Own Story!'.

Keynote Details:

"The Gift of Crossroads: Agency, Responsibility and Justice in the Anthropocene": Bayo will talk about how the Anthropocene, as we are currently experiencing it, is disrupting our commonly held conceptions about social change, racial and environmental justice, and hope, and pushing us towards the otherwise; other places of power and the in-between spaces they might be found.

“A sticky myth of modern activism is that we are human observers looking out upon a world of troubling events from a distance that allows us to think up solutions to those critical occurrences - and it is our impenetrable inner world and free-willed consciousness that will bring order to the chaos around us - if only we get our act together.” - Bayo 2019

**Please consider joining us the following day for Bayo's Post - Activism and Decolonizing Education Workshop on Fri. Oct.11, 2019. Details available on Eventbrite at kwicbayo.eventbrite.com

A heartfelt Thank You! to our Sponsors: Al & Linda Slavin!
