Event description

A holiday celebrating the Black community, family, and culture

The act of traveling by foot from one bar to another

A one-day event where people of the African diaspora join together to support the Black-owned bars in their neighborhood. Crawlers will be dressed in whatever makes them feel Black and beautiful, for a day of unity, fellowship, and fun!

Kwanzaa Crawl is on the first day of Kwanzaa, Thursday, December 26, 2019. It will support local, Black-owned businesses in the BROOKLYN and HARLEM neighborhoods. The crawl is focused on the social aspect of building community and facilitates the creation of economic empowerment within our community.

Presented by sisters Kerry Coddett and Krystal Stark's Operation Mobilize.

  1. SELECT A BAR. Choose your desired FIRST STOP on the crawl. (The rest of the 3 - 4 bars on your route will be randomly selected.)

  2. CHOOSE ANY TEAM #. This will be your team for the entire crawl. If you want to crawl with your friends, make sure they choose your EXACT TEAM #, too. You cannot switch teams mid-crawl.

  3. PICK UP YOUR WRISTBAND(S). Registration will be available from Dec. 20 - Dec. 23 at select Brooklyn and Harlem venues, and you’ll be able to get your wristbands and cup* before the event.

  4. MEET YOUR TEAM. On the day of the event, meet up at your team’s Kick-Off Party to connect with your team leader and teammates, and to retrieve your special Kwanzaa Crawl map. (You’ll receive Kick-Off details closer to the event.)

  5. CRAWL OUT! After the Kick-Off, teams will follow the map and together, they’ll crawl to all the bars listed on their map.

By participating in the Crawl, you agree to the terms and conditions here.

*Available while supplies last

Registration || Wristband & Cup* Pick-Up

On Dec. 20 through Dec. 23, crawlers can pick up their wristbands, cups*, and event guides at select Kwanzaa Crawl venues in Brooklyn and Harlem.

We will let you know the registration venue for your team in advance. Please bring a valid 21+ older photo ID.

NOTE: If someone else will be picking up your wristband, please list their full name when purchasing your ticket via Eventbrite. The photo ID presented at registration much match the name authorized on your Eventbrite receipt. No exceptions. PeriodT.

If you’re unable to register between December 20th and December 23rd, don’t worry! You can receive your wristband, event guide, cup*, and Kwanzaa Crawl map at one of the Late Registration locations on Thursday, December 26th between 11 AM and 1 PM only.

From there, you can head to your team’s Kick-Off party to meet with your team and retrieve your Kwanzaa Crawl map.

Late Registration Locations:

Brooklyn || Amarachi Lounge, 189 Bridge St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Harlem || MIST Harlem, 46 W 116th St, New York, NY 10026

Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019

On the day of the event, meet up to connect with the rest of your team, retrieve your Kwanzaa Crawl map, and to partake in the Kwanzaa Ceremony. It’s a kick-off party you don’t want to miss! Please be on time, because you don’t want your team to leave without you.

Due to the large number of attendees, there will be several Kick-Off parties across three different venues. Crawlers will be notified of their team’s Kick-Off time/location in advance.

BROOKLYN KICK-OFF || 1:30 & 2:30 PM

  • The Black Lady Theatre (750 Nostrand Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216)

  • Brooklyn Masonic Temple (317 Clermont Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205)

  • MIST Harlem (46 W 116th St, New York, NY 10026)

If you’ve already picked up your wristband and cup, but won’t make it to the Kick-Off Party to get the Kwanzaa Crawl map with your team’s route - don’t worry! At 4 PM, we’ll publish the routes on our social media page, and send an email out to all ticket holders. Unfortunately, we have to keep the routes secret until the event kicks off, so you won’t have access to your map until all of the teams are already at their first stop.

we’re excited to announce a few new highlights for Kwanzaa Crawl 2019:

  • Pick up your wristband(s) in advance. Registration for the Kwanzaa Crawl starts on December 20th and ends on December 23rd. We will notify you in advance of your team’s registration times and venue. (Don’t worry - you can send a friend to pick yours up, and if you’re coming from out of town, get yours on the day of the crawl.)
  • Harlem crawlers start with one big party! All Harlem crawlers will get a chance to party together before splitting up into their teams and heading to their first stop! It’ll be like one big cookout. (#Baewatch2019 lol!)
  • Two boroughs. Two vibes. Choose the borough you want to crawl in by selecting the vibe you prefer. For more Hip Hop, Trap, R&B, & Cookout Classics, head to Harlem! To hear more Caribbean/AfroBeats music, choose Brooklyn.
  • Black Owned Everything! This year, we have three (3) different Kick-Off locations and they are all Black-owned!
  • Wheelchair Accessible Routes in Brooklyn! You don't have to walk to crawl.

    Choose the following Brooklyn teams if you’ll be crawling on wheels: 1D, 3A, 5A, 7, 7D, 8A, 10, 10E, 16, 17, 17D, 17E.
