KUOW Celebrates 70
Event Information
About this event
KUOW is celebrating 70 years since our first broadcast in 1952. From our early days as a scrappy student-run station to a founding NPR member station, to the community resource you know today, KUOW is an institution fundamentally transformed by community investment and participation. Join us Sunday, May 15 at Town Hall Seattle as we take a look back at seven decades with KUOW’s Bill Radke, Ross Reynolds and special guests.
Even more things to celebrate: Stay for a live-taping of our new mid-day show Soundside with host Libby Denkmann. Come meet the Soundside team and see how radio is made. Soundside tells stories that connect us to our community — locally, nationally, and globally, where you can be part of the dialogue, learn something new about your region, and meet your neighbors from the Peninsula to the Palouse.
For this special live-taping host Libby Denkmann will interview Brivele, a Seattle-based klezmer folk-punk trio about their efforts to bring the musical traditions of Ashkenazi Jews of Central and Eastern Europe from the past to the present.
Libby will also be in conversation with former president and COO of Nintendo Reggie Fils-Aimé about his new book, rising to the position of COO and President of Nintendo, and what he thinks the future of gaming could look like.
Reggie Fils-Aimé is the former president and COO of Nintendo, who helped bring the Nintendo DS, the Wii, the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and the Nintendo Switch to the global marketplace. His forthcoming book is DISRUPTING THE GAME: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo (HarperCollins Leadership; May 3, 2022). This is the first time Reggie has told his own story, including his upbringing as the son of Haitian immigrants, to becoming one of the most powerful names in the history of the gaming industry.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. The Forum, Town Hall Seattle, 1119 8th Avenue, Seattle WA 98101
