Description

Hoosier Environmental Council and Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation Present:

Kosciusko County CAFO Workshop

Are you someone who is negatively impacted by a nearby factory farm (i.e., Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation or CAFO)? Or are you simply a concerned citizen seeking empowerment to act on behalf of Indiana’s environment?

Join the Hoosier Environmental Council’s Senior Staff Attorney and Director of Agriculture Policy, Kim Ferraro, on Saturday December 9th from 10am-2pm in the Kiwanis Room of the Syracuse Community Center for an educational workshop on CAFOs. Learn about the impacts of CAFOs on Indiana’s environment, economy, and human health, alternatives for economic development, the role that food choice plays in ensuring a healthy environment for all, and what you can do to advance the movement for a more sustainable food production system both locally and statewide!

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION INCLUDE:

• Protecting your community against the irresponsible siting of new CAFOs

• Ensuring that existing CAFOs are following the law

• Becoming a more effective advocate in pushing for greater local and state protections

• Learning your legal rights under zoning, land use, environmental, and public access laws as they relate to CAFOs

• Making positive change in a challenging political climate and building the local and statewide movement for a more sustainable food production system
