Kol HaPanim and AJOCC- JUNETEENTH Kabbalat Shabbat 2022
Date and time
Celebrate Juneteenth with a Kabbalat Shabbat; a musical service of freedom, joy and liberation led by Jewish spiritual leaders of color.
About this event
Join Rabbi Sandra Lawson, rabbinical student Dr. Koach Baruch Frazer, and Rabbi Josh Lesser as we honor this U.S. national holiday marking the date confirming freedom to the last remaining enslaved people in the South and West. Though Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, very few people were immediately freed. A full two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation and two long months after Richmond fell, the last enslaved African Americans in Texas were pronounced free people.
Our Kabbalat Shabbat service centers the voices of Jews of Color and welcomes everyone of all observance levels and faiths on this Independence Day. Come celebrate with us as we honor this day through a Jewish lens that African-Americans have observed for more than 150 years.
This hybrid event is hosted by Kol Hapanim (www.kolhapanim.org) and the Atlanta Jews of Color Council (www.ajocc.org). It can be attended both in-person at the Distillery of Modern Art, 2197 Irvindale Drive, Atlanta, GA 30341, and the event will be live streamed.
No alcohol will be available during our event.
Space is limited so register today.
