Event description

Description

One of the most scenic kokanee salmon runs in the state takes place at Sheep Creek, and we're inviting you to join us! Watch the fluorescent red fish as they spawn on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the first bridge in the Sheep Creek Geological Loop, just off Hwy 44. Watch for the signs and parked cars. Our biologists and staff will be at the site to help you see the kokanee and interpret their breeding behavior. Don't forget your camera and binoculars! You might see some bighorn sheep and other wildlife, too.

To make your trip even more interesting, you may also download the "Travelstorys" app to your phone and enjoy a self-guided tour, as you drive the Flaming Gorge Scenic Byway. This app will play throughout your ride and explain everything from the wildlife you may see to the geologic history of the area. Be sure and download it before embarking on your journey, as service along the byway may vary.
