The Vocal Seniority (Raising Cane) presents a panel discussion and workshop on our First Amendment rights and risks as well as de-escalation tactics and conflict resolution during protests and other activities. We will have representation from legal, mediation, and police points of view.
Attorney Thaddeus Betz will offer legal advice on our First Amendment and other rights as well as our legal risks when engaging in non-violent protests and civil disobedience actions.
Two local non-violent conflict resolution mediators, Dick Eisman of the Cascades Mediation Center and Susan Agli who worked for the Deschutes County Courthouse as a mediator will tutor us on de-escalation tactics and other measures that would reduce the potential for conflict at events.
A representative from the Bend Police Department will discuss the role of the police in protecting our First Amendment rights. They will also address their own role in public protests, marches, demonstrations and non-violent civil disobedience actions.
The Vocal Seniority is an organization of progressive thinkers with a strong sense of history. We actively promote peace, social and economic justice, and environmental sustainability and invite all members of the community to join us.
