Event description

Description

New York Foundation for the Arts and the Asian American Arts Alliance are pleased to offer an opportunity for cultural organization leaders and staff to learn how we can help provide sanctuary and support to immigrant and refugee artists and colleagues.

This two-hour workshop seeks to empower arts workers with knowledge and strategies on immigration policies and practices; the strategies covered in this workshop can also be applied in issues around race, gender, and sexuality.

The training will provide background on the issue, legal framework and strategies on knowing your rights and security protocols, and approaches beyond legal rights to form community and build solidarity. The training will conclude with breakout sessions that will allow participants to workshop how they can implement these strategies and practices at their own organizations.

The training will be led by Art Space Sanctuary, developed in conjunction with the New Sanctuary Coalition and the National Immigration Law Center. The presenters will be Geoff Trenchard, attorney, volunteer for New Sanctuary Coalition; Luba Cortes, Immigrant Defense Coordinator, Make the Road NY; and coordinator Rosalind Aparicio-Ramirez, New School.
