Event description

Description

This forum hopes to educate and empower educators, students, parents, and citizens concerned about the rights of immigrant students and families.

Muslim Social Justice Initiative, Inc. (MSJI), The Bronx African American History Project (BAAHP), and Bronx Educators United for Justice (BxEU4J) are coming together to present a "Know Your Rights" forum on legal issues facing immigrants at schools, covering student’s rights, raids and house visits as well as the Muslim ban. Speakers from several organizations will cover hot topics.

IRAP will cover the Muslim Ban, their lawsuit and airport concerns. They will give general background, where we stand today, and the rights of people at the airport, secondary questioning, and related topics.

Bronx Defenders will present on ICE raids/home visits, ICE in courts/schools (and organizing to keep ICE OUT of those spaces), particular concerns for non-citizens with criminal convictions or just arrest history and on what people can do to access free immigration counsel.

Find out about people’s rights in NYC when stopped by law enforcement while walking on the street, driving, and also what their rights are when they are visited by the FBI/NYPD at home or at work.
