Dessie Bey

"In addition to being an author and editor, I am a playwright, a freelance writer, the cofounder of The Langston Hughes Poetry Society of Pittsburgh and the principal organizer of "slave narrative readings" for Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. As a social acitivist, I am the founder of MAAMs (Mother's of African American Males) and the cofounder of Sankofa Girls Rock. I am the owner/operator of "db on point publsihing".

THE BOOKS

My task on this earth is to write. As a poet, it is my responsibility to prick the human conscious. Since I was a child I always wanted to save humanity and I always believed love conquered all. I still hold to these childish ways for the sake of saving humanity. However, instead of debating my truths with individuals, I write the truth in poetic form for all to read.

To read Dessie Bey's poetry is a journey into eloquence of her images and words. Similar to the music of Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington: to hear Dessie Bey -- I have experienced poetry that has the substance of greatness and the poetics of great black music. The human heart pumps more fuller and happier with Dessie Bey in our world of art.
