Knife skills are essential to wilderness survival and will help you progress through training with more confidence.

About this Event

Choose just 1 class or bundle them together and save $10

KNOTS - 9 AM - 12 PM ($40)

String, cordage, rope, line -- whatever you call it, it's nature's original duct tape. In this 3 hour course, you will learn useful knots and their application. These knots are extremely valuable and can be used for creating primitive tools to setting up a storm-proof shelter. There is no shortage of information and tutorials about knots online, but which ones do you need to have in your arsenal, which are the most valuable?

Join us as we examine the most useful knots for wilderness survival (and sometimes life in general). We often get asked what skills would be the most helpful to learn before attempting some of your longer survival skills. The answer is simple: Knots & Knife skills.

Learn from someone who has literally had his life on the line fast roping, rappelling, diving and prosecuting improvised explosive devises, you will be hard pressed to find anyone who has put as much though into his knots and why he uses them.

LUNCH BREAK 12 PM - 1 PM

KNIFE SAFETY SKILLS (1-5 PM) ($50)

Most of us didn't grow up with a knife in hand, whittling tools and creature comforts from the landscape out of necessity. Knife skills are disappearing, and becoming a much underappreciated skill. This class is fantastic for all experience and skill levels.

We will cover a range of skills from:

  • knife and axe safety
  • batonning
  • useful saw techniques and safety
  • biomechanics of knife use (how to use your knife more efficiently when calories count)

Knife skills seem simple...take sharp edge, remove wood, try not to cut yourself. Like most bushcraft and survival skills, the devil is in the details. This workshop will provide you the training to effectively and safely use sharp cutting tools in the field.

The instructors have a knack for gauging your experience level and giving you appropriately challenging tasks to progress your skills. This is done from varying projects from tent stakes to wooden spoons and netting needles. No prior experience needed, but if its there, you will be challenged.

Recommended Equipment/Materials:

  • Food for meals & snacks
  • Water (there is a well on site, but well water is an acquired taste)
  • Bug spray, sunscreen
  • Fixed blade full tang knife and any knives you would like to use during the knife course
  • Paracord is recommended for the knot course

    FAQs

Am I responsible for my own food and water? Yes, bring enough food and water for at least one day. At our Florida location you will have access to a primitive outdoor kitchen. There are also restaurants within a 15 minute drive

Will I have cell phone service? Cell phone service is spotty, but you will have access to electricity to charge phones.

What is the bathroom situation? Port-a-potties are available on-site

Is smoking and alcohol allowed? Smoking is allowed, alcohol is prohibited

Should I tip my instructor? Tipping is common in this industry, but please don’t feel pressured to do so. If you feel that your instructor has gone above and beyond to provide you a quality class and you would like to tip them, it will be greatly appreciated.
