Event description

Description

Come learn with us at these three marvelous workshops to be taught by Alize Kizomba. This will be a three-hour workshop program, followed in the evening by a dance social with Dj Javier Avitia (Dj Javi) from San Diego, CA.

Ginga workshop: 3:00pm to 4:00 pm

Kizomba workshop: 4:15pm to 5:15pm

Kompa workshop: 5:30pm to 6:30pm

GINGA is the natural body/hip movement expressed in Kizomba and other Afrocentric dances which adds to the sensuality of the dance. This workshop will help you to develop your body/hip movements and be able to understand the different ways of moving your body with your own style. It is important that everyone has their own style, uniqueness and individuality. For both men and ladies!

KIZOMBA is the result of an evolution. It describes both a music style and a dance style. Kizomba is an Angolan word which means “party” in the Kimbundu language. Kizomba is an African dance from Angola characterized by close partner connection and smooth, grounded movement. In Kizomba, there is no “basic step” after the fashion of ballroom dances, to be repeated continuously throughout the dance. Instead, movement with the music is the priority, and steps are incorporated according to the range of your vocabulary.

KOMPA music originated on the island of Haiti in the 1800s, and has its roots in Africa. This style of dance originates specifically from Haiti. Kompa dancing involves moving the pelvis, shoulders, arms, hands, hips, and feet The beat and gaining rhythm is something you need when dancing to Kompa music.

INSTRUCTOR: Andra, well known as Ms Alize, was born in Brooklyn, NY, but raised in the Haitian culture. Alize has been dancing since she was 2 years old; dances like Konpa, Zouk, folklore, ballet, and many more. In 2012, she discovered the beauty and culture of the most popular and influential African dances: Kizomba and Semba. After 6 months of learning the dance, she started a team in Brooklyn, teaching and sharing her knowledge. Since then, she has entered competitions all over the USA and Europe in order to obtain more training and to teach. You can find her outstanding dance videos on You-Tube, Facebook and Instagram. You-Tube: Msalize Kizomba or Kiki and Alize; Facebook: Msalize Kizomba or Kiki & Alize; Instagram: msalize_kizomba16.

DJ Javi (Javier Avitia), Resident Kizomba DJ in the SoCal area. DJ Javi has accomplished quite a lot in a very short amount of time. While only having about 4 years under his belt, his love for Kizomba (music, dance, and culture) began long before that! His passion for all things Kizomba drove him to invest countless hours into developing and perfecting his craft - keeping the dancers happy AND dancing ALL NIGHT LONG... to nothing but the best Kizomba, Ghetto Zouk, Retro Zouk, and Afro House available
