Kirklees Democracy Commission preview evening (Dewsbury)
Wed 5 April 2017, 18:00 – 20:30 BST
What should local democracy be like?
We're working with citizens and others to shape what a strong and healthy local democracy will look like in Kirklees for the next generation and beyond. We have heard evidence from over 1,000 people as part of this work. We now want to share some of what we’ve learned along the way.
We’re holding two special preview events so that our citizens can hear some of what we’ve learned, ahead of our draft report being debated at a full Council meeting (where all Kirklees councillors will take part).
Register now to be the first to hear about what we've learned
Our preview evening will include an update on our work so far, ideas about practical things that we could try out in local communities, and a Question and Answer session with our Commissioners. There will be a light buffet available and refreshments.
The event will be hosted by Dr Andrew Mycock (our independent chair) from the University of Huddersfield.

Who is it for?
If you’re an active citizen living anywhere in Kirklees, or if you’d like to be more involved in your community, and you’re interested in making our local democracy stronger, these events are definitely for you.
Please also feel free to share this with others you know who might like to take part.
We’re writing our draft report and recommendations now. We’ll be including our findings about councillors, elections, decision-making, devolution, active citizens and networks.
The final content of the Kirklees Democracy Commission report will be agreed by local councillors, so this is still a work in progress and nothing has been decided yet. But we want to share some ideas with you at these events, give you an opportunity to ask more questions, and find out what practical ways of doing things differently you might be interested in trying out where you live.
