Welcome! King County is hosting a forum for veterans, particularly student veterans to discuss the possible renewal of the Veterans & Human Services Levy (VHSL).
You are invited to participate in this forum focusing on veterans experiences and issues throughout King County. VHSL staff will host this forum, present information on veterans living in King County, and record your feedback on this information.
This forum will:
Discuss priorities for veterans services
Share experiences accessing programs and services in King County
Review the research and focus of the current Veterans & Human Services Levy
King County’s Veterans & Human Services Levy (VHSL) is a voter-approved property tax levy that supports veterans and their family members as well as vulnerable populations in King County. The levy collects $18 million per year, half of which is dedicated to support veterans and their families. Examples of VHSL-funded services for veterans include: the King County Veterans Program, support for Vet Corps programs in King County, and non-VA mental health care for some veterans and their dependents. The current VHSL will expire on December 31st, 2017. The King County Council and Executive are considering whether and in what form to renew the VHSL.
This Veterans Forum is an opportunity for you to voice your priorities for veteran-specific services and convey your experiences as a veteran and those of your peers experience in King County. VHSL staff and special guest King County Councilmember Rod Dembowski will be present to hear what is important to you. Input from the this forum will inform VHSL renewal planning staff as they take guidance from the Council, Executive, and community to craft a proposal for a renewed VHSL. The VHSL staff will present information and findings and ask for your input in understanding how those findings do or don’t match with your experiences. No preparation is needed from participating veterans other than a willingness to share your thoughts and opinions.

Councilmember Rod Dembowski
