Event description

Description

Join us for a training on wind energy in Alaska and develop the skills and tools you need to enter teams of students in the KidWind Challenge held March 18th. In a KidWind Challenge, students work in teams to design and build a model wind turbine at home or school and bring it to the competition to measure the energy output in a wind tunnel as well as present their design to a panel of judges. It is open to 4th-12th graders and there will be Middle School (4th-8th grade) and High School (9th-12th grade) divisions. Learn more about the national KidWind Challenge here.

Teachers, parents, or other adults who plan to go to the Challenge are invited to attend the training on January 11th. If you register by January 1st, you will also receive a free KidWind turbine kit. Teachers who would like to register for a continuing education credit (ED 580: Wind Energy in the Classroom) will also receive a stipend covering the cost of the credit. Training is limited to 30 participants and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Lunch will be provided.
