The Children's Policy Council of Etowah County

invites you to our

3rd Annual  K.I.D.S

(Kids In Dangerous Situations)

Workshop.

 

This workshop is free to anyone in the community that works with children or has an interest in learning more about this subject. The focus this year is on the different situations that our children are faced with daily.


There will be 100 spots available for this workshop. Lunch will be provided for all attendees.

 

Registration and check-in will be at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m and end at 3:00 p.m.

 

Professional Development hours will be offered as well as CEU's for Counselors & Social Workers. Provided by Shepherds Cove Hospice.

3 CEUs for Social Workers

3.6 CEUs for Nurses

 

For Counselors:

Garrett Counseling will be helping provide those at a discounted price pending the approved amount of hours. Please email Emily at etowahcountycpc@yahoo.com if you will needs these credits.

Garrett Counseling has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6763. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Garrett Counseling is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Objectives:

  1. The drug problem facing Etowah County
  2. How parental drug use affects children
  3. The short/long term effects of drug use on children/teens
  4. Signs to look for that your child/teen could be on drugs.
  5. Reasons why children/teens turn to drugs
  6. What sort of treatment is available

 

Pamel Butler- Alabama Mental Health
Substance Abuse in our State
Objectives:

  1. Define Substance Abuse
  2. Current state of substance use disorder in Alabama
  3. Available resources

 

Pamela Casey- City of Oneonta District Attorney
What's hAPPening on social media?
Objectives:

  1. Educate the listener on the dangers of social media
  2. Educate the listener on  popular social media apps
  3. Educate the listener ways to prevent social media app abuse
  4. Introduce the listener to SmartPhone initiative.


Jenny Knight- Shepherds Cove Hospice
The Grieving Child..how to prevent child abuse.
Objectives:

We would also love to invite all attendees to donate a gift card of any denomination to the Children's Policy Council of Etowah County.  Every year, we "adopt" agencies for the holidays by having a "gift card drive."  It can be from any location.  This year, we will be giving the gift cards to 2nd Chance Domestic Violence Shelter and DHR so that both agencies may provide their families with needed items.  Thank you in advance and gift cards can be dropped off at registration.
