Kids Webmaking and Game Design Day
Thu, November 3, 2016, 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM EDT
Join us for this PA Day filled with webmaking, game design, and graphic design activities. Open to children from 7 to 15 years of age. We provide the laptops!
We'll be covering 4 subjects:
Intro to HTML
This session, designed for the beginner programmer, will assume no previous coding knowledge. We'll dive into the functions of HTML and help walk you through how to set up your very first web page.
We'll be using Mozilla Thimble as our coding tool, which is easily to access on the web and where you can share your finished work with anyone outside the class with a simple link!
Intro to CSS
We'll show you how to call out certain elements on your page and set colours and images to create a super cool design.
CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. It's where you can call out your HTML page elements such as headings, paragraphs, images, tables, buttons, and more and set a design for each element. You can control the design of your page without having to rewrite code.
Intro to Graphic Design
Pixlr combines paint tools with image design. You can use Pixlr for several different purposes, including creating an image from scratch, as well as layering images over each other. You can also make use of a variety of effects, filters and level adjustments, define your own brushes, utilities such as resizing and cropping, drawing right onto a blank canvas and a ton of other awesome features.
Intro to Game Design
Become a code superhero by creating your own game using Scratch! We will help you brainstorm fun and engaging game ideas while learning about game design principles, game characters and how to give your game sound.
Scratch is a beginner-level game making tool created by MIT that allows users to build their logic and computational skills. Use your imagination and see what kind of awesome game you can create!
