This brand new Kids Geode Fest will be held on June 24 & 25, 2023 from 7:30 am to 5pm on Saturday and 7:30 am to noon on Sunday. Meet at the Meierotto Shelter House at Victory Park in Keokuk, Iowa (the riverfront) throughout the day to get your official wristband and directions to the three hunting sites. At two of the hunting sites, there will be landowners to help you. At these two sites, a fee of $25 per 5-gallon buckets of geodes gathered are payable to the landowner. The 3rd site will have free geodes and a representative from the City of Hamilton to greet you. Free registration to the event will allow you & your children (ages 15 and younger) to go on the geode hunts, a free lunch on Saturday from 11am to 1pm; a casual question and answer period/show & tell with a kid-friendly professional on Saturday from 11am to 1pm and allow your children to participate in the geode contests on Saturday evening beginning at 4:30 pm. There will also be a geode cracking vendor at the Shelter House. The categories for kids' geode contest are: smallest, largest, prettiest, ugliest, oddest, rarest and "this mud's for you".
