Event description
Kids Escaping Drugs is proud to host our 13th annual Kids Escaping Drugs Leadership Summit!

About this Event

The 13th annual Kids Escaping Drugs Leadership Summit will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019. Student leaders and education professionals from across the WNY region are invited to a day long workshop on the ever-changing signs symptoms and trends of substance abuse as well as the leadership skills that are necessary to stand up against it. Pizza lunch will be available for all participants. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably.

Students in grades 7-12 are invited to participate. Each school is permitted to bring up to 6 student representatives. We are looking for positive leaders within their districts who will be able to bring the information back and incorporate it into their school culture. While participation from all grade levels is encouraged, it is not required. Schools are not limited to two students per grade level, but 6 students total. Schools are not limited in the number of adult representatives they would like to send, however if they are bringing more than two they will have to register additional staff on a new registration.

Transportation assistance is once again available to districts, on a first come first served basis. Please contact John ASAP for details!

All participants will attend the welcome presentation at 9:00am,

At 9:30am, students will be randomly split up into small groups in which they will participate in various workshops involving activities about teambuilding, art, the stereotypes of addiction, empowerment, and a special presentation from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and their therapy dogs. Students should plan to participate in hands-on activities and engage in discussion. They will work together on ways to promote positive choices within the school community. Participants are encouraged to return to their schools and use their leadership skills to demonstrate a positive impact on the drug and alcohol culture within their school buildings through participation in our Billboard Contest!

Adult participants will hear from experts in the field and participate in in-services designed to help them better understand and deal with the issues their students are facing. This year, adult participants will get an update on trends, hear a presentation about vaping, become certified to carry Narcan, and much more. Adults are encouraged to work with the student representatives after the summit to have a positive impact on the culture in the buildings they attend every day by assisting with the Billboard contest.

If you have questions about the Summit, please contact John Bennett at (716) 827-9462 or at jbennett@ked.org

We look forward to seeing you on the 31st!
