Instructor Kimberly Place has worn many hats in her life. Shes a wife, mom, teacher, musician, and a seamstress. Sewing seems to be something that comes naturally for her. Kims family has a history of seamstresses on both sides. They sewed to survive, to be fashion- able, and to have fun. Shes lucky to be able to sew for fun and to bring a little joy to the people that she teaches.

She started sewing in 4-H when she was 11. Her first project was a nightgown. After the nightgown was a success, the second project she constructed was a teal knit dress and hot pink belt in the unitsstyle that was so popular in the 1980′s. Kims mom helped her design the dress ensemble and they even had an awesome black felt hat with coordinat- ing pink roses on the band. She had a fashion show and contest to show off her outfits and won first place.

Kims first quilt was created in 2008 when she wanted to gift her mom some home décor items for her living room. It was a disaster, but as every good mom should, she still has it hanging off a chair in her living room. Shortly after moving to Austin at the beginning of 2013, Kim joined the Austin Modern Quilt Guild. Shes had an even bigger adventure in stitching ever since. Austins group of strong, creative women has encouraged Kim to explore her stitching abilities and creativity even further. Shes enjoyed meeting new friends through sewing and is thrilled to learn new things as much as possible.

Kim began teaching sewing in 2016 and has been having a blast. She creates projects based on the studentsdesires and works to create fun and challenging designs for each student. She finds joy in the pride each student has with their work and looks forward to seeing what they create in the future.
