TO REGISTER:

1) DROP IN OR CALL – Call the Library Arts Center office at 603-863-3040 or stop by during gallery hours (Tues-Fri. 11am-4pm, Sat. 10am-2pm) Your registration is complete when we have received your competed registration form, as well as payment for the class.
2) PRINT & MAIL a registration form with your check.
3) REGISTER ONLINE NOW via EventBrite.

*PLEASE NOTE: If the class of your choice is full or canceled due to lack of enrollment, you will be notified and entitled to a full refund. Class tuition is due in full on or before the first day of the class session. Make-up classes will only be offered when the instructor is unable to teach his/her class.

Members of the Library Arts Center may subtract 10% from tuition prices of all classes. Scholarships for children’s classes are available; please inquire.

Magical fairy wands and colorful tutus will be created using our “tulle” boxes. Finished tutus will be modeled as we share a story from the Fancy Nancy collection.


Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Instructor: Chris Scott
Ages: 4 – 7
Dates: July 9 – 13

“Brown Bear” is the first of the beautifully written and brilliantly illustrated books for young children by Bill Martin Jr. Illustrated by Eric Carle. We’ll paint paper with a variety of tools, like combs and bubble wrap. We’ll write our own books and illustrate them with cut painted paper in the style of Eric Carle.

Positively Planetary! – Create a collage of the solar system!

Instructor: Fran Huot
Ages: 6-10
Dates: July 17 – 19
Times: 9am -11am
Tuition: $25
Take an interplanetary journey in this class, as each camper creates a large-scale poster of the solar system using a variety of textures and collage techniques. Use a variety of materials—from sandpaper to cellophane to rice crispies, glitter and melted crayons—to tickle the senses, and create a planetary masterpiece that will serve as a fun bedroom wall décor piece to take home! Fun facts about the planets will be shared each day, as well.

Surrealism, Dreams and the Analytic Mind

Instructor: Allison Zito
Ages: 9 – 12
Dates: July 16 – 20
Times: 12:30-3:30pm
Tuition: $50
The irony and symbolism of Surrealist artists like Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte will be featured this week. Students will look into their own subconscious pushing the limits and creating their own avant-garde dreamscapes, paintings and sculptures, with a 21st-century perspective.

Rev it Up! Learn to use a Sewing Machine

Instructor: Charen Urban with several local seamstresses and quilters as assistants!
Ages: 4-6 graders
Dates: July 24 – 27
Times: 9am – noon
Tuition: $40
Learn how to rev up a sewing machine to sew and create your very own, unique sewn project! This art camp will teach participants how to use a sewing machine, from threading and filling bobbins, to cutting out your patterns, piecing and ironing. Get all the basics in this hands- on class. Using these machines will be liberating and safe with the assistants of several seamstress volunteers as well as the International Volunteers for Peace who will be helping out in Newport and the Arts Center this week!

Train Worlds!

During February break from school campers built a town blanketed in snow around an HO scale train. Our town included a skating pond and hut for skates, farms, fire and police stations and an airfield. What will the summer landscape include? Campers will create a miniature town using art materials and lots of creativity and imagination!

Lego Robotics

Instructor: Barry & Deb Connell

Join other young designers to create Milo, the science rover. This LEGO workshop integrates science, engineering, technology, and computing. Participants will work in teams to collaborate and design solutions to challenge problems in a fun environment that sparks curiosity. If you have taken this before, know that Mr. & Mrs. Connell will offer differentiated instruction to meet all participants right where they are to keep the group as engaging and challenging as possible.

Modern Manners Camp: A Look at Modern Cultural Etiquette

Ages: 7 – 12

Times: Mon. – Thurs. 9am-11am and Friday 9am-12 noon

Description: The world is full of unspoken social expectations, and it’s hard to keep track of it all! At the very core, etiquette is about RESPECT for others, and in this class, students will learn to communicate respect in a variety of social situations. Topics covered will be social etiquette, greetings + introductions, thank-you notes, table manners, and gallery & performance etiquette. With fun foods and interactive games, there’s never been a more exciting way to practice “manners!” This week-long class will culminate in a special lunch where students will practice what they’ve learned.

CANCELED - Art with Energy!

Students will create paintings, mobiles, stabiles, toys and more. We will look at the work of engineer and artist Alexander Calder and the artist that inspired his monumental mobiles, Piet Mondrian. Mondrian reduced his art to the most basic elements. Calder was busy with his Circus, when visited Mondrian’s studio and was inspired to make his spaces move and the mobile was invented. We’ll look at these two artists and find inspiration for our own drawings, mobiles, stabiles and paintings.

Tuition: $50
Who is your super hero alter ego? Spend a week writing and drawing your own hero comic. Make your own super hero costume. What will your costume include? Do you wear a mask and cape? Do you need a utility belt, like Batman? Draw your own trading card to reproduce. Have your photo taken as your hero. We’ll enlarge and display it at our 15 Main Sttreet gallery.

Adventures of the Lake Sunapee Pirates!

Instructor: Chris Scott
Ages: 5 and up
Dates: August 20 – 24
Times: 9am to noon
Tuition: $50
Children ages 5 and up engage in creative play during this art camp.
Campers will make maps and fill a treasure chest with gold and jewels they make. They will build a pirate island with a cave, to play in, out of paper mache. Friendly pirates will design, make and fly their own jolly roger flag and create their own pirate costumes. Arrrrr!

MUSIC WITH FRIENDS

Instructor: Julie Love
Friday Mornings, 10:00-10:45am
ONGOING (four-week session): $32.00 for caregiver & one child (per four-week session), $10 for each additional child
Location: 15 Main Street, Newport, NH
Ages: 0 – 5 children with a caregiver (between 6 and 12 children in the class)
We recommend signing up for the full session if possible * pre-registration is highly encouraged. For those unable to attend the full session, note that drop-ins are welcome $10 a class for one child and caregiver + $5 for each additional child in that family.
Description: Experience making music with your children & friends in this class designed for young children and their caregivers. Music will come to life as everyone Sings, Dances, Drums & Claps for Fun, experimenting with voices, instruments & movement.
