Event description

Description

Kid Power, Inc. and our Honorary Host Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, invite you to an evening of culinary exploration at the 7th Annual Taste of the Garden on September 12, 2019. During this interactive event, Kid Power students team up with Washington, D.C.’s finest chefs in a cooking competition using produce from the Kid Power school garden to see who is truly Washington, D.C. Champion of Health as judged by YOU…our guests!

Kid Power is also proud to announce that we will be presenting the 2019 Excellence in Leadership Award to Activist, Political Commentator, and Entrepreneur Michael Skolnik. Co-Founder of The Soze Agency, The New York Times celebrates him as, “the man you go to if you want to leverage the power of celebrity and the reach of digital media to soften the ground for social change." His advocacy work makes him the perfect recipient for this honor.

Join us at the beautiful Renaissance-Revival style mansion, Josephine Butler Parks Center and meet the amazing Kid Power students and enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, and silent auction.

FEATURED CHEFS

The proceeds from the 7th Annual Taste of the Garden benefit will support Kid Power's award-winning VeggieTime Program. This program seeks to create a sustainable community where youth provide fresh produce for themselves and family, effect change in the food delivery system, and seek to increase nutrition education and environmental awareness in their communities. It accomplishes this through its original nutritional science curriculum, hands-on gardening instruction, recipe development and cooking classes, and health/environmental service-learning opportunities for Washington, D.C. youth.

Come out to support the health and wellness of D.C.'s underserved youth while meeting the chefs who are on the forefront in the fight against youth hunger and malnutrition.
