Moving to the Netherlands and living in The Hague will not only give you the opportunity to learn and speak Dutch, but also to polish your English language skills. There are many native English speakers here, but you will also hear many other nationalities speaking English with a wide variety of accents.
In this workshop, the Kickstart School will be looking at the different “flavours of English” you can come across, including American versus British English. They will also explore some “False Friends”, especially between Dutch and English, and reflect on how communicating across cultures can be an unpredictable affair.
Kickstart’s teachers hope you enjoy their tips on tact and diplomacy and how not to translate expressions directly from one language to another. How many other languages describe the weather as “raining cats and dogs”? Everything is possible in English!
