National Caribbean-American Foods & Foodways Alliance [ NCAFFA ]

Using Our Foodways to Strengthen Our Community

Questions consistently asked are why foods with tremendous appeal to Americans who have likely had extremely positive experiences with these foods (having visited the Caribbean on vacations) have not reached their full potential, what can be done to achieve this and how to motivate young Caribbean Americans to enter the food profession as professionals and entrepreneurs. NCAFFA was created in 2010 in response to these questions. Its founding members are Doreen Thompson, Dorel Callender, and Basil Buchanan. Association with the Alliance is open to persons, organizations and businesses with an interest in Caribbean foods.

The National Caribbean-American Foods & Foodways Alliance (NCAFFA) was launched Sunday, June 20 2010 with an exposition of Caribbean foods at Alpha Kappa Alpha House on 14th Street NW, Washington DC. The event, co-sponsored by the Caribbean-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Greater Washington Area Network (CACCI-GWAN) and recognized by the Council of the District of Columbia, brought together local Caribbean food-related enterprises with small business and economic development organizations.
