About this event
Do you want to protect our oceans and coastal economies? Right now, you have the chance to get involved right here in Maine. Offshore finfish farms, also known as industrial-scale fish farms, threaten our oceans and coasts by raising thousands of fish in pens or cages out at sea. These massive operations create pollution from the chemicals, waste, and excess feed that flow out from the cages directly into the surrounding waters.
To make matters worse, these facilities are managed by large corporations that exploit a shared, public resource for profits while undermining the work of local fishermen and aquaculturists. The debate around fish farming is heating up, so this spring, we are building public support in Maine for policies that bolster local, working waterfronts and local ecosystems and against other policies which can advance risky development across the country.
