Event description

Description

Now in its 12th year, the Kick the Flu Summit will convene medical, health, and community service providers from both public and private sectors to share information, collaborate, and strategize about how to promote and increase the rate of flu immunizations throughout San Diego County during the 2016-17 influenza season. The Summit is presented by the San Diego Immunization Coalition (SDIC), a community group that consists of nearly 700 individuals from over 150 partner organizations working together to identify and develop approaches to raise immunization coverage for all residents of the region.

Our very special keynote speaker is Dr. Bill Atkinson, Associate Director of Immunization Education at the Immunization Action Coalition (IAC). Formerly from the CDC, in 1995 he conceived, developed, and took the lead in writing one of CDC's most widely sought-after books, Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (aka the Pink Book). The book is now in its 13th edition, and more than 400,000 copies have been distributed.

Dr. Bill Atkinson

Our educational focus will be on conducting flu pods in different settings. Your peers will present how they organize particular flu clinics within the community, schools, and health centers.

You will also hear from Dr. Mark Sawyer about current flu products and updates from the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), as well as Jeffrey Johnson who will review last year's county flu statistics.

Participants will also get a chance to network with each other and interact with representatives from exhibitor booths. Who should attend:

  • Medical/health care providers and staff
  • Public health practitioners
  • Social service employees
  • Pharmacists
  • Senior service staff
  • School nurses and daycare staff
  • Other health professionals

Continuing Education Hours: those eligible can earn CE credit from the California Board of Registered Nursing (application is pending).

FREE Parking Passes: Limited pre-paid parking passes will be given to those who qualify based on need.

FREE Registration. All these perks are free! Online registration ends Friday, 9/2 or when capacity is reached. A special thank you to AMN Healthcare for donating the venue space.

If you would like to be an exhibitor, please email sdicinfo@sdizcoalition.org.
