Event description

Description

Clients with personality disorders are among the most challenging clients to treat. Often, the very thing a person with a personality disorder needs help with obstructs their ability to receive the help they need in the first place. An array of dysfunctional thoughts, misdirected feelings and behaviors can all add to the intensity with which relationships are attended to. Therefore, learning how to harness and utilize the power inherent in the therapeutic relationship is paramount for clinicians so that they can better support their clients in developing greater insight into the nature of their symptoms and their ability to manage their symptoms.

This course will aim to:

1. Help clinicians identify and assess personality disorders using the clinicians emotional, psychological and somatic experience of the client.

2. Learn eight effective experiential interventions which clinicians can implement in their work with their clients in order to help clients develop greater awareness of and manage their client’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

3. Review case examples of challenging situations involving clients with personality disorders.

4. Help participants learn how to manage their own countertransference reaction to their clients in a productive and effective manner.
