Philip R. Jose PE, CSP, runs an active consulting business specializing in Fire Protection Engineering, Life Safety and Joint Commission SOC update services. He is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Certified Safety Professional and an Executive Level Healthcare Safety Professional. He has worked in industry for Dow Chemical and Trane Company and spent most of his career as a Safety and Fire Protection Engineer for the Department of Veterans Affairs. While working for the VA he was chosen as their Professional Engineer of the Year. He received his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University and a Masters in Engineering from Texas A&M. Phil has served on several NFPA Technical Committees including the NFPA 101 - Life Safety Code Healthcare Committee, NFPA 101A – Alternate Approaches to Life Safety, NFPA 90A - Air Conditioning Systems and as chair of the Life Safety Code committee for Board & Care Facilities. He is one of the original members of the Healthcare Interpretations Task Force and served six years as a member of the Joint Commission’s Committee on Healthcare Safety, the group that writes and revises the standards for the Environment of Care. Phil is a Life Safety Code instructor for the National Fire Protection Association. His client list includes such prestigious facilities as Massachusetts General Hospital, George Washington University Hospital, Stanford University Medical Center and Johns Hopkins. Phil has conducted more than 400 Life Safety Assessments for Health Care facilities.
