Event description
Get out your metal detectors and shovels. Keweenaw Week is once again your chance to find the finest specimens of copper in the Keweenaw

About this Event

The Keweenaw Peninsula is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This was the location of the richest copper deposits in the world. This year Keweenaw Week will include field trips to the Cliff, Seneca, Wolverine #2 and Central rock piles. Each field trip is proceeded by four hours of bulldozing/excavating to greatly improve your chances of finding exceptional specimens. There will be three evening social events that include a Meet and Greet with a mineral identification and metal detector use clinic. An evening Lecture presented by Dr. Nathalie Brandes on "Falun, Sweden's Copper Country and an evening banquet and live auction. The auction offers fine mineral specimens and artifacts with all proceeds going to the Michigan Technology University Nathan De Cleen geology student scholarship.
