KEVIN DUNN | COSMO JR

********************

Kevin Dunn

Kevin Dunn is a guitarist, producer, and songwriter who first came to public notice in the new wave scene that arose in Athens and Atlanta in the late 1970s. With Alfredo Villar, Kevin formed the Fans, influenced by the Brit art rock of the era. The band issued three singles and disbanded in 1979. Before the Fans started winding down, Dunn began pursuing a solo career as a performer and producer. In 1978, he co-produced the B-52s single "Rock Lobster," and in 1979 and 1980 he co-produced Pylon's first single and LP.

In recent years, Kevin has focused on performing ambient pieces on electric guitar and baroque repertory on a replica 17th century instrument. Kevin frequently plays with Serson Brannen performing ambient improvisations in the group In Sonitus Lux. Kevin has also performed his solo new wave material, recently opening for Fred Schneider of the B-52s, and in a Yardbirds-inspired band.

Cosmo Jr

Cosmo Jr is a four-piece band from Athens, Georgia with diverse musical backgrounds. Dana Downs, lead vocalist and guitarist, has played in many bands over the years including the Tone-tones, Go Van Go, and Vietnam. Deborah Wall, drummer and percussionist, was in one of Athens' first all-female groups; the Supervixens. She also drummed with the Carlisles, Vietnam, and played with Dana in her Charleston band the NoSeeums. Ben Hesse, guitarist and producer, played in Adams Family Country Band and NoSeeums. Kevin Dunn, the newest addition to Cosmo Jr, brings his magical virtuosity to the group. Kevin was a member of Atlanta's first punk band, the Fans, and is known for his solo albums and his work with the Regiment of Women.

The band's sound is Americana punk psychedelia with a dash of Broadway. They have performed at the 40 Watt Club, the Foundry, and the World Famous, and at Keep Athens Beautiful’s Eastside spring festival. They have also done special performances for the Piccolo Spoleto and Moja Festivals in Charleston and recently completed their rock opera Sisters in Arms, which chronicles the golden age of piracy, primarily from the points of view of Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
